BEACON FOUNDATION – STUDENT AMBASSADORS

As part of the Foundations for the Future program, 12 students from Year 10 form the Beacon Student Ambassador group.  These students represent the school at Beacon Foundation events throughout the year, and also assist at Beacon events at the school.

Beacon Student Ambassadors ran the 2011 Charter Signing Ceremony at Rutherford Technology High School where all Year 10 students signed a commitment to stay at school until they have a clear pathway to further education, training or employment.

NEALE BLACKWELL
With a long history at the school, Neale Blackwell has been a teacher at Rutherford Technology High School (RTHS) since 1994.  Initially employed as a Teacher in the Human Society and Its Environment (HSIE) Faculty, Neale took on the role of Acting Head Teacher – Administration for 4 years before returning to the HSIE Faculty and taking on the position of Head Teacher HSIE.
Neale also has responsibility for Literacy and Numeracy programs at the school, ensuring that all students have access to additional support in these areas where needed.
Neale’s wife Jenny is a member of the English Faculty staff at RTHS, evidencing their commitment to the school.  They have 2 adult children.
Neale says that he enjoys the variety of working with the students at Rutherford, finding the interaction with students and staff stimulating, with every day providing different challenges and achievements.
Asked about the main change that he has seen since 1994, Neale says that this would be the large increase in numbers of students and staff as the school has grown, now having a population of over 1,000 students.
