Rutherford Technology High School

In an exciting contest that took place at Maitland Library on Monday 31 March 2008 as part of Law Week activities, the Rutherford Technology High School debating team, under the guidance of team coach Mrs Julie Glasson,  took honours on the day, outdoing teams from Maitland High School and St Mary’s High School, and going on to beat the Cessnock Toastmasters team.

The prize for the day was a $500 cheque for the school together with a magnificent trophy which will take pride of place at the school.  

Principal Paul Tracey says “We are extremely proud of this achievement by the debating team”.    “This type of event takes students outside of the school environment, providing a considerable challenge to their self confidence”.  “To win against teams from other schools and to debate a team of experienced speakers demonstrates the quality of these students and the way that they work as a team”.
