Title

Choices Workshop

Body

On Wednesday 30 August Year 10 students from Rutherford Technology High School will be taking part in a Career Choices Workshop at the school.

More than 30 presenters, the majority of whom are from the local Maitland area,  will be coming into the school throughout the morning  to talk about a wide range of careers, professions, and trades pathways.

The purpose of the day is to help students get a more detailed view of the many career paths open to them, and the qualifications and skills that they will need to follow a chosen career pathway.   By speaking to people who actually work in each of the areas they will gain a true insight into the realities of the job, the highs and lows, what they can expect to earn, what their job prospects will be, etc.

Areas covered include Automotive Trades, Graphic Design,  Beauty Therapy, The Army, Animal Care, Real Estate, Fire Brigades, and many more ……

Students have been asked to nominate the areas that they are most interested in and will be provided with a schedule for the morning that includes their nominated areas of interest.

Acting Careers Adviser, Linda Poolman, says that “The Career Choices workshop is a unique opportunity for students to consider their future career path after school and to ask questions of people who work in a range of areas.  A lot of work has gone into preparing for the day – the support of the local community in participating has made this possible and our thanks go to all those people who are coming along to talk to students on the day”.
